Description

Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD+) is one of the most fundamental coenzymes in cellular biochemistry, participating in over 500 enzymatic reactions and serving as a critical regulator of cellular energy metabolism, redox homeostasis, and genome stability. NovaLife supplies NAD+ as a lyophilized powder at 1,000 mg per vial with independently verified 99%+ purity.

Compound Overview

NAD+ functions as a hydride-accepting cofactor in catabolic reactions (glycolysis, the TCA cycle, and beta-oxidation of fatty acids) and as a substrate for a family of enzymes that regulate a broad range of biological processes:

  • Sirtuins (SIRT1–7): NAD+-dependent deacylases that regulate gene expression, mitochondrial function, DNA repair, and metabolic homeostasis. Research with NAD+ frequently investigates sirtuin activation pathways and their downstream effects on longevity-related gene networks.
  • PARPs (Poly-ADP-ribose polymerases): Enzymes that consume NAD+ during DNA damage response. In-vitro models use NAD+ to study PARP-1-mediated DNA repair kinetics and the cellular cost of genotoxic stress.
  • CD38 / CD157: NAD+-consuming ectoenzymes involved in calcium signaling and immune cell function. Research examines CD38 regulation as a mediator of NAD+ availability in aging tissues.

The NAD+/NADH ratio is a key indicator of cellular redox state and mitochondrial health. Research applications include measuring the impact of metabolic interventions on the NAD+/NADH ratio in cell culture models, as well as studying NAD+ precursor supplementation pathways (NMN, NR) relative to direct NAD+ availability.

Reconstitution

NAD+ is highly water-soluble. Reconstitute with sterile water for injection or bacteriostatic water. Allow the vial to equilibrate to room temperature, add solvent slowly against the vial wall, and swirl gently. Solutions should be clear and colorless to pale yellow. NAD+ in solution is less stable than lyophilized powder — prepare fresh aliquots for each experiment and store at −20°C if extended storage is required. See our Laboratory Resources page for full protocols.
